ARC Review: The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black

12813630Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown’s gates, you can never leave.
One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from bestselling and acclaimed author Holly Black.

So, this book is the first vampire book from Little, Brown since the Twilight Saga so naturally I had to give it a try given the big Twilight fan I am! I absolutely loved this book! The story and the characters are truly original and unlike any other vampire book I've read.  This book gives you a nice refreshing take on vampires which is one of the reasons this book is as good as it is.  Unlike Twilight, the center of this book does not revolve solely on the romance but rather the struggle and journey of the character Tana.  The romance is sort a like a side story to the real meat of the novel. The adventure in this novel keeps you guessing with every page you turn.  I also like that Tana is a very strong character who fights and fends for herself  throughout the novel.  If you like Twilight then you will like this book! However, if you don't like Twilight because you aren't keen on the focus of romance in the novel then I think you will enjoy this novel as well.  I really wish there was a sequel to keep the story going but sadly it's just a standalone :(.  You guys should definitely check this book out when it is released September 3rd, 2013!
